The purpose of the PLACON project is to develop a complete production process for the manufacture of a conductive dashboard for a vehicle cabin. This element will consist of a traditional vehicle dashboard into which a flexible printed circuit board (FPCB) with integrated connectors will be inserted, replacing all the electrical wiring under the dashboard. Compared to conventional cables, FPCBs could result in a weight reduction of about 70%, therefore the project also fits into the context of carmakers' demands for reducing CO2 emissions. In addition, there would be an innovative process quality compared to the current solution, as currently, cables are installed by operators, but with the FPCB solution, this could be automated with FPCBs, assembly and installation would be simpler and automated. This would reduce the risk of human error, improving the quality of the process, and reducing cycle times. The flexible circuit and its integration into the dashboard, which will be the subject of study and development by the partners and the involved Research Organization, is currently not present in the Automotive market and therefore represents a disruptive innovation in that sector.
